76 new and/or updated entries have been uploaded to the Deities Page, all Roman.

Some of you asked very nicely for a few additional Roman recipes several months ago (the first batch is here: http://musesrealm.livejournal.com/179256.html). My Roman cookbooks have been sitting on top of my printer since then waiting to be used, and today I finally got around to it. As before, these recipes are adapted from a fantastic cookbook called Roman Cookery by Mark Grant.

Next weekend is the big Scotish/Irish Festival in Estes Park, and I'll be cooking Roman food for us pretty much all day. If any of the new recipes I try work out, I'll post the recipes here after I get back.

Etnos (Pea Soup)

1/2 c. Dried Peas
1 Leek, finely sliced
1 T. Olive Oil
1 t. Dried Dill Seed
Sea Salt

Rinse the peas. Add 2 pints of water, peas, leek, and olive oil to a large pot. Bring to a boil, and simmer for 1 hour, or until the peas are tender. Season with dill, and salt to taste. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Serve warm with bread or crackers.

I like adding garlic, carrots, and ham to this. It's pretty much the Roman version of split pea soup.

Faba Integra (Bean Soup)

1 1/4 c. Navy Beans
1 Bouillon Cube (Vegetable of Beef work the best, IMHO)
1 T. Olive Oil

Boil 1 pint of water, and dissolve the bouillon cube in it. Add the beans and olive oil. Simmer with the lid on for 20 minutes, or until the beans are tender. Turn off the heat, and let the soup marinate for an hour or so. Just before serving, bring to a boil once again. Serve hot as an accompaniment to a main dish.

Laganophake (Lentil Stew)

1/2 c. Lentils
1 Onion
1/4 c. Red Wine
1 t. Cumin, ground
1 t. Dried Dill Seed
1 spring Fresh Thyme, finely chopped
1 spring Fresh Oregano, finely chopped
1 spring Fresh Parsley, finely chopped
1 T. Olive Oil
1 pinch Aniseed, ground
Sea Salt

Thinly slice the onion and fry until soft in some olive oil. Add 1 pint of water, red wine, and lentils. Add cumin, dill, and aniseed to the pot. Bring to a boil, and simmer, covered, for 45 minutes, or until the lentils are tender and most of the water has been absorbed. Just before serving, add the thyme, oregano, and parsley. Serve with bread.

I've made a bunch of additions and corrections to the Roman Calendar of Festivals and Information on Roman Festivals pages.

If anyone is going to the Elizabeth Celtic Festival in Elizabeth, Colorado this weekend, I'm doing a presentation on Roman Festivals and Deities at the Roman Encampment at 11:15am on Saturday and Sunday.
muses_realm: (Sponsa de Libano)
The Roman Festivals page has been updated with new festivals and more information on previously posted festivals. More updates on Roman Festivals will be happening in the coming days.

If anyone is going to be at the Elizabeth Celtic Festival in Elizabeth, Colorado this July, I will be giving a presentation on Roman Deities and Festivals on July 19th and 20th at 11:15 am.

There have been 140 new/tweaked Roman and Etruscan deities added/modified over on the Deities Page. Most of the updates happened with Roman Deities.

Please let me know if you notice anything amiss (other than links to Greek deities that go to an error page--I know about those)!
muses_realm: (Vorenus)
I've uploaded 20 pictures to my gallery for the Roman Legion that I'm a part of. I'm currently the only female member of the group, so I should be pretty easy to pick out, ;-)

You can view them here.

Avete!

I've added more information to the Roman Calendar, Roman Festivals, and Roman Names pages.

And I've added/tweaked 39 Roman Deities.
muses_realm: (Roman Entertainer)
Some of you know this, some of you don't: I'm part of a Roman living history group. Being the only female and (until just last month) the only civilian in our legion, I felt it was my duty to learn and cook some Roman food. Under the cuts are some of the recipes that I've had luck with. They are all adapted from a fantastic cookbook called Roman Cookery by Mark Grant.

I've made a few updates and additions to the Roman Festivals Page, and added a few new Roman and Greek deities.

The calendars for May will be going up tomorrow evening my time (Mountain Standard Time).

From Left to Right: Cassius, Acadius, Lucius, Marcus, Rolan, Lucillia

I'm the only female in the picture, in case you are wondering which one I am. ;-)

Several of the boys also took pictures, and after they post them to the group I will put them up here.

Instructions for my tunica interior, stola, and palla are waiting on my pictures transferring from my phone to my album (it may be a while).

In addition to the usual LJ Icons and Wallpapers I have a Perpetual Calendar and an essay (Music and Greek Theatre) I wrote for a theatre class several years ago. I also have some new largeish textures for PSP--and that section now includes the textures as PNGs as well as PSPs.

LJ Icons:

[04] The Life of Brian
[07] Ancient Rome

Wallpapers:

PSP Textures:
all are behind a cut because even the previews are large, and not everyone cares )

All of the graphics have been cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] muses_creations.

The calendars for August 2007 were along in the last post...

I've made several updates to the Roman Festivals pages. I'm in the middle of updating those pages, but have added enough to make it worthwhile to upload them.

I've also added several Babylonian, Sumerian, Roman, Mayan, and Egyptian deities to their respective pages in the Deities Section. I'm (still) not done, but there should be fewer links that lead you to the error page now. ;-)

In the near future I hope to upload some additional deities and Rome Page updates as well as the LJ Icons and Wallpapers that are made but haven't been added to their pages. I probably will be working at the daycare and working on moving into my new home office tomorrow, but will (hopefully) have some time to spend on the computer...
muses_realm: (Strife!)
Many, many updates this time! I've been busy, so I haven't had as much time for updating as I thought I would or as I would have liked. C'est la vie.

In the Roman section there is a new page about the Roman Calendar. The festivals page, the seven hills page, the writers page, and the terms page have had updates and tweeks done to them.

The Deities section has had some updating and tweeking, particularly in the Roman and Creatures areas. Speaking of which...I've created a community for mythological creatures in fandom. I haven't done much with it yet, but if you are interested in helping me (and [livejournal.com profile] pknight) out by becoming a moderator or watching it, I'd love to have you!

And finally, the Creations section has been updated. There is a new header, a new friends only banner, new LJ icons, a new PSP tutorial, a new PSP brush, and a new PSP tube. The header, friends only banner, and one LJ icon match, btw.

I'm going to try and start up and run the Junior Classics League at my school next year (eek! and squee!), so I get to do research this summer. I'll be reading a lot to get myself prepared (and pretty much re-learning Latin), and I'll have time to add some of my research to the 'Realm. What am I going to add? You tell me!

[Poll #992404]
muses_realm: (Roman Entertainer)
I've added or tweaked fifty Greek Deities, Roman Deities, and Mythological Creatures in their section of the 'Realm.
muses_realm: (Greek Hoplite)
Several Greek and Roman deities have been modified or added to the Deities Page over at the 'Realm.
muses_realm: (Roman Entertainer)
I've added several new entries to the Roman Festivals Page.
muses_realm: (Greek Hoplite)
I've updated the Deities Section of the 'Realm with new or updated information on 23 Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Deities and a few mythological creatures.
